YOGA

Background:

I am a dedicated yogi and have been teaching yoga since 2017, when I earned my initial teacher certification while living in Nicaragua.  The emphasis of my training and personal practice is rooted in the style of yoga called Ashtanga. You can read more about this type of yoga by checking out the blog section. The traditional Ashtanga method is preserved and passed down through teachers with a particular advanced certification from a lineage born in India. I am not explicitly certified in this complex lineage-based traditional method, but this is the method I practice. I am experienced and qualified to teach basic Ashtanga-influenced accessible yoga classes tailored to the unique needs of students and groups. This is an essential distinction because here in the West, we are still in the early stages of learning about the power and complexity of yoga and its impacts on the nervous system. The Ashtanga yoga method is potent, and certified traditional Ashtanga teachers have met rigorous and specific specifications to teach it safely.  I have learned all of this firsthand, which has made me a conservative and responsible basic yoga teacher.

Community Yoga:

A powerful, accessible method for linking mind, body, and spirit

Dust off your sandy feet and join me for yoga every weekend. It is my great joy to offer an affordable community-based yoga class at 11:30 am at the beautiful historic Astoria Arts & Movement Center in the heart of Astoria, Oregon. No pre-registration is required. The first class is free to try, and after that it is $10 for a drop-in class or $60 for a ten-class punch card. This beginner-friendly class introduces the fundamentals of yoga (breathing, strength, balance, flexibility, focus, self-awareness, and supportive community). It is a well-rounded foundational yoga class that includes standing poses, seated poses, some flowing elements, and a final rest. This class is open to anyone interested.  It is recommended you bring your own mat, but if needed, there are used mats to borrow & new mats to purchase. Blocks are available to borrow. Reach out with questions, and I look forward to seeing you in class. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook or sign up for my quarterly newsletter for updates on other classes, events, new blog posts, and other happenings.
